Upon the imminent completion of its network, ntl will have 266 nodes supporting its Ethernet services, more than double that of BT, its nearest rival. Its proprietary MetNet/Broadnet network will have 126,000 km of fibre at a local level and is built upon next generation IP technology. This will enable ntl to control and offer market leading guaranteed delay, bandwidth and maximum jitter parameters, through reduced reliance on leasing capacity and on legacy copper.
Cost and performance were key factors in Opal’s decision. ntl was able to meet Opal’s imperative to significantly reduce its cost because of its wide network spread and subsequent close proximity to BT’s exchanges, which reduces both cost and lead-times. Offering 21st century capabilities today, ntl’s network provides greater flexibility than other providers due to fibre depth and advanced next generation technology. Carriers can select from a range of wirespeed connections at 10, 100 or 1000Mbps access speeds and trunk capacity at 2-1000Mbps, providing the opportunity to tailor the product to suit specific business needs.
