H3C, the joint venture with Huawei, is a key part of 3Com’s global capability. 3Com’s acquisition of 100% of the company will provide a presence in China, the world’s biggest emerging market, along with state-of-the-art R&D and over 4,000 highly skilled engineers and designers. In FY05, 3Com had annual revenue of $651 million.

3Com delivers cost-effective, secure converged data and voice networking solutions to businesses of all sizes in both the public and private sectors. Supported by research, development and support services, the company delivers communications systems that are designed to help network managers

implement new technologies quickly and gain a fast return on investment.

3Com provides customers with a broad portfolio of products including IP telephony, networking (wired and wireless), edge-tocore routers/switches, and services. The company has a steadfast commitment to open, industry standards enabling products to interoperate in a mixed vendor environment. Recently launched products and solutions include 3Com’s Open Services Networking (OSN) - a solutions architecture that allows a wide range of network applications to be tightly integrated into the infrastructure to enable a diverse set of services – and the Unified Switch - an easy to deploy and manage solution that has all the elements of a business-class network, as well as a platform for delivering advanced communications solutions such as wireless and VoIP, in one box.

A division of 3Com, TippingPoint, introduced the first Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) in 2002 and is the recognised leader in this field, delivering in-depth application, infrastructure and performance protection.

Gary Newbold, “The market is moving toward the unification of technologies and will require solutions that integrate intelligence into the network infrastructure leveraging open source and open architecture models. Organisations are currently undergoing a transition, upgrading networks which now enable a switch to be wireless. This will in turn push remote working from home and increase productivity as people work more and travel less.
