One in five UK businesses will be used fixed-mobile convergence products in two years’ time.

So says a study from Vanson Bourne for billing systems company Martin Dawes Systems; it found that more than half of businesses surveyed were aware of FMC technology, which uses a single handset to make both fixed-line and mobile calls. Indeed, 10% were already using it.

Cost savings were the main appeal – more than 75% of those with an interest in the technology cited money as the main reason for their interest. The second most favoured reason was boosting worker productivity.

The enterprises surveyed said the biggest challenge to the adoption of FMC is the initial cost of the system itself (64%) followed by the need to justify ROI, mentioned by 48%.
