The Irish government has proposed that all roaming charges should be scrapped inside Europe.
Reuters quotes an EU spokesman as saying: “We will certainly take this up. This certainly has added-value for European citizens”. It would also have the political merit of near-universal popularity among citizens of Europe, not something that happens frequently. Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern made the proposal to cut or scrap roaming charges at the late-March meeting of heads of government.
