According to the latest study from the Strategy Analytics, the mobile industry is on course for 2.5bn subscribers by the end of 2006 and 3.5bn by the end of 2010, up from 2.1bn at the end of 2005.
The researchers point to two key trends in the global wireless market in 2005 – “phenomenal” levels of subscriber growth from the emerging markets, and “the coming of age of the high-speed 3G market”.
The worldwide growth in subscriptions to mobile services will slow to 20% in 2006, says the report. Last year saw growth of 23%.
