London Underground has announced a six-month trial of mobile phone services on the Waterloo & City line, intended to find out “whether it is technically and commercially viable for coverage to be extended across the Tube network”. The trial starts in a year’s time “at the earliest”; if successful, the technology could be extended across the Tube network by mid-2009.
