LOOK AND FEEL:

A solid slab with a neat twist – the bottom bit swivels, through 900 for the camera and 1800 to present the music controls. Finish feels a bit rough, glossy parts show fingerprints.

5/10

EXTERNALS:

Lots of different materials on show in various shinynesses of metal and plastic. Uncluttered around the edges.

6/10

KEYBOARD:

Number pad on twisting section looks crowded but works well enough; elongated D pad on main section is perfectly useable.

8/10

DISPLAY:

Very good high-resolution screen with rich colours. Contrast is good.

8/10

MEMORY:

Loads. 10Mb internal plus 512MB microSD card – awkwardly located, so don’t try removing it; but at least there’s a card in the box.

8/10

CAMERA:

2 megapixel, 4x zoom with still, burst, and video modes. Music keys double as camera controls, eg for zoom. Results are average.

6/10

MANAGING MUSIC:

Good interface – intuitive and generally functional. Also synchronises nicely with Windows Media Player on a PC via USB.

8/10

PLAYING MUSIC:

Poor earbud headphones, disappointing audio quality even with replacement

headset. No equaliser functions.

4/10

IN USE:

Inserting MicroSD card is tricky, but everything else works well. Good call performance too.

7/10

EXTRAS:

Data cable and sync software in the box, Push To Talk, FM radio (didn’t work for us though), latest Symbian S60 functions, EDGE.

6/10

WE LIKE:

• Twist-for-function feature.

• Enough memory to store music, reasonable playing interface.

• Useful collection of extras (especially EDGE – when it’s available).

WE DON’T LIKE:

• Disappointing music player functions, poor earbud headset.

• Overall standard of finish.

• Poor battery life.

OVERALL:

An ok mainstream phone, but a mediocre music phone. With this level of capability, the twisting looks like a gimmick.
