The Nokia 6233 is a classically styled candybar with a great TFT display, good stereo speakers, microSD card slot, and a 2 megapixel camera capable of capturing video in VGA resolution.
It’s also a 3G phone, and must be a decent replacement for the 6230/6230i – not exactly exciting, but a real workhorse that packs in some nice characteristics – feature-wise the phone is almost identical to the Nokia 6280.
For instance, we liked the hot-swappable microSD memory card (64MB included), the metallic body, and the familiar and comfortable keypad and navigation buttons. The Symbian Series 40 UI is familiar but has been tweaked for maximum performance. It is user-configurable in almost every possible way. The menu is organised logically; functions are detailed, offering high-control comfort and brilliant work efficiency.
It’s not perfect, though most of the complaints are nit-picking: the camera could be better (no flash, no macro mode), the FM radio has no RDS support, the buttons on the side are difficult to press. And the 6234 (the Vodafone-branded version of the same phone) will probably be cheaper. The 6233 doesn’t have the slick, sleek looks of a very expensive device, but then it’s not expected to be one.
