Look and Feel:
Pretty stylish for a business phone. Feels very solid, looks great.
8/10

Externals:
Understated and elegant, with a good mix of steel (around keys and screen) and good-quality textured plastic. Main camera lens on rear, voice command keys on side, Nokia connector on bottom with power-in.
9/10

Keyboard:
Keys are solid, well-spaced, well-differentiated. Discreet but effective backlighting (adjusts automatically).
8/10

Display:
Great 16m-colour screen with Nokia’s mirror layer to make use in direct sunlight quite feasible.
9/10

Memory:
50MB on board, plus hot-swappable microSD memory card slot – no need to remove battery.
9/10

Camera:
2mp and video, but very basic functions and no flash. Lens is exposed.
6/10

Excellent – WiFi, 3G, EDGE, Bluetooth, USB, even IR
8/10

Phone:
No problems with reception or call quality.
8/10

Business Tools:
QuickOffice for viewing MS Office documents. Team Suite app for group messages, conference calls, Push to Talk. Nokia Search allows searching for data across everything in the phone – contacts, messages, emails, stand-alone files, calendar. WiFi works very well.
8/10

In Use:
Classic S60 simplicity, user interface, performance with business functions in a very usable design. Comes with a natty if pointless pochette, too.
8/10

WE LIKE:
- Build quality
- Business-related details like voice commands, Nokia Search, Team Suite
- Connectivity

WE DON’T LIKE:
- Some restrictions on S60 operating system
- Too similar to Nokia 6288
- Camera options limited

Overall:
Some blemishes in the spec, but another winner for Nokia – a business phone with a sense of style.

Look and Feel:
A bit plasticky – plain, smooth and untextured, various tones of grey. Sits comfortably in the hand, though.
6/10

Externals:
Uncluttered edges. Camera lens on rear, video camera and small on/off switch above screen; big call/hang up buttons on either side of small five-way joystick.
7/10

Keyboard:
Could be better – keys are big enough but don’t give good feedback, especially when texting quickly. The plastic feels flimsy, too.
7/10

Display:
Reasonable – bright, quite rich screen, works well for email and internet. Suffers in bright sunlight.
7/10

Memory:
The usual Windows Mobile allowance (64MB user memory) plus microSD card slot (underneath battery, though).
7/10

Camera:
2.5x digital zoom, flash, some presets and basic editing functions. Photos look good, however. Fingers obscure rear lens easily, and there’s no cover for it. Full support for video calling.
7/10

Connectivity:
Good – WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, USB. No EDGE, no IR, no HSDPA.
8/10

Phone:
Signal reception is generally good and voice calls are clear. Loudspeaker is too quiet on ringing, though.
7/10

Business Tools:
Windows Mobile 5.0 with direct push technology and Office for Windows Mobile (includes Outlook 2002 and Internet Explorer in addition to Office viewers and several preinstalled organiser apps.
8/10

In Use:
WiFi connects straightaway, works well. Apps seem to run a bit slow. Battery life is very good overall.
8/10

WE LIKE:
- Comfortable, easy to use
- Windows capability, WiFi connectivity
- Good battery life

WE DON’T LIKE:
- Plastic feel
- Memory card slot under battery
- Speaker too quiet

Overall:
Easy-to-use smartphone with conventional styling – shame it feels a bit cheap.
