Ofcom has published a consultation paper on a possible major spectrum auction. The 2GHz, 2.3GHz and 2.5-6GHz bands are all being considered but the real action will probably be in the 2.5-2.69GHz spectrum; in Japan and the States this band is already assigned for new wireless-broadband technologies, specifically WiMAX and Mobile WiMAX. BT and Vodafone are said to be keen.
