The Information Commissioner has ordered Ofcom to provide all data on mobile phone base stations held within its Sitefinder database. (The database was set up in response to the Stewart Report on possible health risks from mobile phones.)
Ofcom had put forward several reasons for withholding grid references and a full-search facility for the database – national security, public safety, intellectual property rights, and more. The Commissioner decided that none of the exceptions cited by Ofcom were “appropriately applied”.
