The other newish Walkman phone is the W550, the little brother of the W800 – almost the same capabilities in a neat form factor.
The sound quality is fantastic. There is stereo sound; but it also offers an option called stereo widening, which substitutes for 3D surround-sound. To set up the sound there’s a five-band equalizer and mega bass is also available.
The only frustrating point is the lack of memory – only 256MB RAM. We’d have liked more, especially now that hard-disk phones are raising the bar to multi-gigabyte heights.
The display is almost the same as in W800. Both feature the same high quality images; they both are easy to read at direct sunlight and show 262K colours.
The installed wed browser displays pages using a function called Smart-Fit to reformat pages in such a way that they do not have to be scrolled horizontally. The option for full-screen web view is another important and useful feature of the web browser. Equally interesting is the RSS news reader, giving the ability to stay in touch with your favourite news sources.
