SONY ERICSSON W850i

Networks & Network Services
The W850 is yet another Walkman, which is no bad thing – and this time it comes as a slider.
It boasts a large display with QVGA resolution, full 3G capabilities with video calls, a good 2mp camera, and the latest Walkman 2.0 music player. Other goodies include Sony Ericsson’s high quality 2mp camera, a hot-swappable memory card (and a 1GB card is included), and a a standard 3.5mm headset adapter in the box.

Being picky, we’d complain about the unergonomic navigation pad, the lack of autofocus on the camera, and the ancient QCIF (176x144) resolution for video recording. But we’re really pleased with Sony Ericsson’s first attempt at slider: the W850 is a nice handset offering loud and clear music reproduction and a rich retail package.

Incidentally, we first saw the W850 in the DaVinci Code movie – used not as a music player but purely for its web browsing. Which probably says something about its versatility.

• The Don wasn’t so keen, but we think this could be the next massive Walkman.
