The US satnav market is picking up speed

shipments of portable navigation devices hit 2.9m units in 2006, up 269% on 2005, and 1.5m of those were recorded in Q4. The Canalys figures give Garmin a market-leading 50% share, ahead of Magellan and TomTom. The US represented 23% of the global market in Q4, up from just 15% a year earlier; it’s clearly catching up fast on EMEA (Europe. Middle East and Africa), where Canalys reports that 10.1m PNDs shipped in 2006.
