Voda Reaches 200m

Networks & Network Services
Vodafone announced today that it had passed the 200m subscriber mark, gaining nearly nine million customers in the last quarter of 2006.
The network's customer base has been boosted by strong demand in emerging markets and in Europe particularly for pre-paid accounts. Vodafone gained 8.7 million new subscribers from October to December last year, 20% higher than the same quarter last year. 2.5 million of these were 3G devices, bringing the total 3G device base to 13.6 million.

Although the world's biggest operator when it comes to revenue, Vodafone still have a long way to go to catch up with China Mobile who has recently passed 300m users. Emerging markets seems to be the way forward, with Voda growing fast in places such as Egypt, South Africa, Romania and Czech Republic.

Arun Sarin, Chief Executive, said:
“I am pleased to announce today that we now have 200 million proportionate
customers globally and we are grateful for their confidence in us. This is both an important milestone for Vodafone and a great achievement by our people.”
