Karen Parrott, Product Manager for the Convergent Products and Technology team at distributor Crane Telecommunications, says that 2007 will definitely be the ‘Year of Mobility Applications’ and draws upon recent experiences with large reseller contract wins as proof.
“Resellers who can spot the killer applications for mobility solutions are winning business.” says Parrott who explains, “The combination of Trapeze wireless networks, Spectralink mobile Wi-Fi handsets, the Mitel 3300 PBX and a third party software developer called Blue Sky has proved to be a successful formula in a number of vertical market sectors.
Crane reseller Ashland Communications has been successful in the hospitality market where hotels are using these products for a wide range of applications; for example, should a fire alarm go off then the solution will send a message to the Spectralink handsets notifying staff of the fire alarm and whereabouts in the premises the alarm has gone off.
Another reseller has found success in the construction sector where surveyors are logging on to the internet and using rugged Spectralink handsets on the Trapeze wireless network through a feature called ‘Guest Access’.”
Parrott says Crane has provided resellers with vertical market application stories to show how they too can develop business with these mobility products.
“I would urge resellers to be on the lookout for mobility applications in the enterprise; resellers should be looking to sell more than telephone systems and offer their customers end-to-end IP solutions. Part of that is going to be the data network and with Enterprises in 2006 going through a lot of wireless trials 2007 is set to be the year when these enterprises roll out their full wireless implementations.
Any customer that a reseller visits that has a number of laptops and/or PDAs, or if the user is in manufacturing or retail and has a number of hand held scanners, then the reseller should be talking to the user about these mobility solutions.”
