2e2 opens new data centre hosting suite in Milton Keynes

IT services and solutions provider, 2e2 today announced further investment in its Managed Data Centre Services by opening new hosting capacity in its Milton Keynes Data Centre (MKDC)

Power constraints are affecting more locations across the UK, including central London where major construction projects such as Cross Rail and the Olympics will dramatically reduce the potential for growth in the data centre resources essential to meet growing demand. The new MKDC suite offers 2e2 customers a ‘best in class’ facility in a prime location outside the M25 with both space and power available immediately.

“At 2e2 we are seeing growing demand from organisations who want to house their infrastructure within an external data centre. The increasing costs for building upkeep, primary and back-up power, on-site fuel storage, WAN connectivity and technical and security staff salaries and training are making outsourcing an attractive option. At the same time high-density blade servers and other power hungry equipment, have increased requirements at a time when many data centres have severe power constraints. The net result is that demand for external hosting capacity is outstripping supply,” comments Adam Kamruddin, Managed Services Line of Business Director for 2e2.

The expansion of MKDC includes a new hosting suite that has been designed to provide customers with a high-density solution in an environment with an average power and cooling of 4 Kw per rack, with raised flooring to improve airflow and hot and cold aisles to maximise the efficiency of the CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units. The new suite contains 42U, 600x900 racks supplied with dual power feeds (primary and secondary) for resilience, terminating on APC power bars. Connectivity to the suite is available from a range of service providers, enabling private connectivity from other offices at up to Gigabit Ethernet speeds, as well as enabling highly secure Internet access.

The 24/7 physical security operation at MKDC provides controlled access to the facility with further internal security measures ensuring secure access to each suite, with each rack individually locked. Customers hosting their infrastructure within the MKDC can also benefit from the immediate proximity of the 2e2 Milton Keynes Service Centre, enabling swift on site response for implementation and support services as well as the remote hands located within the MKDC itself.
