Rangers and Huawei Broker Deal

Scottish WiFi expert 802 Event WiFi has brokered a ground-breaking international deal between Rangers and giant Chinese company Huawei.

The seven-figure investment negotiated by the Lanarkshire-based company is set to bring the Ibrox fans into a whole new era of in-depth, WiFi-based engagement with the massive club - as well as opening it up to lucrative new Asian markets.

Using its telecoms and networking infrastructure experience, 802 Event WiFi will deliver one of football's first fully converged stadium-wide WiFi deployments - and Huawei's first deployment in a European club. As part of the package, Huawei will connect its 160,000 worldwide employees to the club.

802 Event WiFi chief executive Felix Gibson said: "This is a major development. It is a transformative deal which will change the way fans interact with their club. We are very proud to have been instrumental in delivering this game-changing technology."

The new set-up will remove at a stroke the connectivity problems of 3G in high-density areas and allow 50,000+ supporters access to club competitions, merchandising, Rangers media, forthcoming events and more fan/club interactive engagement.

Felix Gibson said: "We selected Huawei because this innovative Chinese technology giant demonstrated early their commitment to the project through unrestricted access to people, resource and technology that will enable a seamless “end to end” single vendor solution. Another consideration was to bring Rangers to a wider audience in its Chinese and Asian operations.

Victor Zhang, CEO at Huawei (UK) said: "Huawei has always been at the forefront of innovation in communications technology and this project will open up a major new line of communication between Rangers and its supporters not just in Scotland but throughout the world."

Mr Gibson added: “Event WiFi is not just about resolving communications issues for football stadia. Our expertise and the attributes of our systems can be used productively by premises owners at any event or gathering, or indeed anywhere people meet. We say, “three’s a crowd” and businesses of all sizes should be making the most of data facilitation and capture opportunities available to them.”
