The new Aastra 312 combines the openness of SIP with the many benefits of Voice over WLAN (lower total cost of ownership and easier deployment by leveraging the existing wireless local area network infrastructure). From small to very large deployments with thousands of users, the Aastra 312 can be rolled out very simply via DHCP, administered as a SIP extension and supports firmware update over air for easy upgrades (tftp, ftp, http). The memory card included in the handset not only stores the user’s phonebook (up to 100 entries) but also all details about the user’s profile (WLAN/SIP profile with encryption key, username, password, SIP registration and IP configuration). So if a new handset needs to be used, the memory card is the only thing to transfer.
Other features of the new Aastra 312 WLAN handset include a large back-lit colour LCD, back-lit keyboard, speakerphone and hands-free operation, headset connection, vibrating alarm and a user-friendly interface. The Aastra 312 supports the IEEE 802.11 b/g, 802.11e specifications for an improved voice quality and the following norms for confidentiality and security: WEP, WPA1-PSK, WPA2-PSK.
