Aculab Expands IP/TDM Gateway Lineup

Aculab, the provider of enabling technology for the communications market, has launched their 2U rackmount chassis version of its GroomerII signalling and media gateway

The 2U chassis marks the newest addition to the popular GroomerII range and includes a comprehensive array of signalling and media conversion capabilities that addresses a multitude of service providers’ needs. Aculab says customers depend upon GroomerII to introduce powerful new IP-powered communications services without replacing existing infrastructure.

“Service providers around the world rely on Aculab’s GroomerII to hook dissimilar networks together,” noted Ian Colville, Product Manager for Aculab. “GroomerII is designed to be an unobtrusive component that binds together a variety of networks, whether SS7, ISDN, CAS or IP, and gives service providers a cost-efficient vehicle to offer next-generation services whilst continuing to utilise their existing infrastructure.”

The highly flexible capabilities of GroomerII deliver an extremely powerful tool to manage gateway and signalling functions. Applications delivered by GroomerII include SS7-to-SIP interconnection and routing, E1 to T1 encoding conversions, and a full-featured call manager. GroomerII’s built-in routing and deployment proven protocol conversion capabilities enable interoperability across a converging landscape without the need for external softswitches, signalling gateways or media gateway controllers.

“Our discussions with service providers reveal that while they are willing to offer the latest IP features, a substantial portion of their capital investment still remains with legacy TDM-based systems. By offering these IP capabilities on their existing infrastructure, operators will be able to gradually transition to the NGN, said Ronald Gruia, Principal Analyst for Frost and Sullivan’s Information and Communications Technologies Practice. “In addition, the ability of GroomerII to combine signalling and media in a single gateway squarely addresses a key OPEX pain point for them.”

The server chassis for the GroomerII 2U model has been certified compliant with the NEBS standards, making it suitable for installation within US-based telco networks. The inherent reliability of GroomerII continues Aculab’s longstanding ability to provide reliable and robust technologies to the market.

In addition, Aculab’s commitment to customer success extends far beyond the delivery of the GroomerII hardware. Through Aculab’s highly regarded professional support services, the solution can be customised to fit the needs of each customer through consultancy on integration and configuration, installation services, and ongoing maintenance and support.

The 2U GroomerII can accommodate 8, 16, or 24 E1/T1 trunks, and is available through Aculab and authorised partners.
