Aculab releases Prosody S version 3

Aculab, the provider of enabling technology for the communications market, has announced the release of version 3 of its Prosody S host media processing product. This latest release marks a significant enhancement for applications developers by including embedded support for the Linux operating system.

“Many application developers prefer Linux as an operating system”, noted Andrew Nicholson, Product Manager for Aculab. “Aculab has made a concerted effort to ensure that developers working in a Linux-based environment can leverage the power and efficiencies that are synonymous with Prosody S. With version 3 we deliver the expanded scope while continuing to serve the needs of our customers that choose to work in a Windows environment”.

In addition, Prosody S now includes support for Aculab’s distributed API architecture that enables a single application server to control operations in multiple distributed media servers. This expands the scalability of the total system and enables service protection by taking advantage of integral failover, load balancing and fault recovery.

With Prosody S, developers have access to the same set of codecs and media processing features as Aculab’s DSP-based Prosody X boards. As a software-based system, Prosody S can operate on almost any computer platform, enabling customers to scale implementations on multiple levels, such as channel count, processor performance, and operating system, to match their specific needs. According to Garibaldi Galvão Rocha, Technical Director at IVR and CTI application supplier MidiaVox, “Prosody S gives us the opportunity to quickly develop and deliver products on many different platforms while still employing many of the outstanding Prosody X features that drove our adoption of Aculab technology. In addition, the ability to license by channel is a clear advantage in providing solutions that are scalable and cost effective.”

Customers can use Prosody S to build systems ranging from 2 to over 700 channels in a single server. This meets the requirements of organisations from small enterprises through ISPs. In addition, Prosody S supports one of the largest sets of audio codecs in the market, and enables a wide variety of applications such as voicemail, IVR, conferencing, unified messaging and media servers.
