Aculab Releases V.150.1 for Secure Modem over IP Communications

Aculab, the provider of enabling technology for service providers, applications developers, enterprises and government entities, has announced the addition of ITU-T V.150.1 protocol support in its highly successful Prosody family of media processing products

Referred to as modem over IP (MoIP), V.150.1 enables the transmission of modem communications reliably and efficiently over IP networks. V.150.1 has been adopted as a standard by many military and government sectors as they expand into IP-based communications.

“V.150.1 is of particular value for military communications as it is the standard for enabling the use of secure telephones (STE) over IP networks” said Ian Colville, Product Manager for Aculab. “A PSTN-to-IP gateway that is based upon Prosody X provides the protocol and codec support required by government entities for modern secure battlefield connectivity,” continued Colville.

SCIP (Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol) and WIN-T (Warfighter Information Network-Tactical) are examples of two US military standards that incorporate the V.150.1 protocol for secure communications. These standards are essential for enabling modern fighting forces to maintain secure communications and control on the fly. Interconnection of multiple communications networks; indigenous technology, wireless, wired PSTN, and IP networks, is an important capability for the modern mobile fighting force. V.150.1 is a fundamental component of a comprehensive interconnect solution.

In addition, defense communications providers rely on V.150.1 as an efficient method for transporting modem signals across the IP network, specifically when compared to bandwidth inefficient and sometimes unreliable G.711 technology.

The addition of V.150.1 protocol support to the Prosody media processing portfolio continues Aculab’s longstanding commitment to support a wide variety of standard protocols and codecs that application developers, defence contractors and systems integrators use to create effective communications solutions for military, government and commercial use.
