Affiniti Scoop £6m Cheshire Police Deal

Affiniti, the communications integrator created from Kingston Communications Business Services, Omnetica and Technica, has today announced it has secured a five-year contract with Cheshire Police Authority worth £6m. Affiniti will be responsible for the design, implementation, support, maintenance and service management of a converged voice, video and data infrastructure that will deliver a platform to provide operational benefits across Cheshire Constabulary.

Mark Taylor, Infrastructure Development Manager at Cheshire Police, said: “The information, communication and technology requirements for modern policing have become increasingly complex and the volume of voice, video and data traffic has grown significantly. To meet this challenge Cheshire Police has selected Affiniti as a partner to provide a communications infrastructure that, in addition to having the required capacity, is also robust, resilient, scalable and highly available.”

The new network infrastructure will combine an IP-enabled Siemens voice platform with an upgraded Cisco data network, and will be configured specifically to provide increased resilience and bandwidth, as well as the flexibility demanded by modern policing needs. The single infrastructure will carry voice, video and data traffic and provides a platform for further advances such as the use of mobile communications. The Communications Infrastructure will be proactively managed and maintained by Affiniti with structured SLAs offering guaranteed fix times and availability.

Gary Young, Managing Director of Affiniti, said: “Interestingly, Affiniti now works with over 40% of the Police Forces in the UK. In designing this network, Affiniti is deploying a number of best in class technologies and will maximise investment by re-utilising existing infrastructure, where possible. This will result in a solution that offers enhanced performance levels, along with the security, flexibility and levels of future-proofing appropriate to a Police environment.”
