Avaya Appoints New VP Channels and Sales

Avaya has announced the appointment of Tristan Munday as new vice president, channels and sales operations for EMEA. Munday will support the development of Avaya’s multi-channel strategy in EMEA and lead sales operations teams to support customers’ migration to IP telephony and ‘Business Communications Applications’. Reporting to David Winn, vice president, Avaya EMEA, Munday’s appointment is effective immediately.

Munday has held various roles at Avaya including supporting the EMEA sales organisation as well as playing an integral role in the Tenovis acquisition, driving the integration of sales and operations. Prior to this, he worked as senior operations director at scientific manufacturer, Smiths Industries, where he was responsible for all operational and financial areas for one franchise within the Smiths Group, with a turnover of over £50 million.

David Winn commented: “Tristan will further strengthen Avaya’s multi-channel strategy helping business partners – from global systems integrators to service providers and VARs – identify and develop growth opportunities to gain market share in IP telephony and applications. This multi-channel strategy gives customers – from SMEs to large enterprises – a choice of partner to suit their needs.

Winn added, “In addition, Tristan brings experience of working with business partners across Europe, coupled with the knowledge of sales operations to fulfil the significant potential of the enterprise IP telephony market in which Avaya leads.”

Avaya has increased substantially IP telephony shipments in EMEA, according to a recent report by industry analyst firm Synergy Research Group. In the three months from July to September 2005, Avaya increased the number of IP telephony ports shipped and corresponding revenues by a quarter. This strong growth has moved it into the number two position, with nearly 22 percent market share measured by ports and more than 24 percent measured by revenues.

Among those reporting to Tristan Munday will be John Howard, appointed as Enterprise channel director, EMEA.

Avaya introduced new products in 2005 as part of an emerging software and services category called ‘Business Communications Applications’, a global market estimated to be $30 billion in 2006.
