Avaya to Snap up Sipera

Avaya seems set to snap up voice security and session border controller (SBC) vendor Sipera in a deal expected to close on 15 September.

Avaya already has an SBC deal in place with market leader Acme Packet and this is expected to be now terminated. Many observers have commented to Comms Business Magazine in the past that Acme Packet SBCs are very expensive and have led to many SIP trunk deals failing before they got off the ground. Sipera’s SBC is reportedly a fraction of the cost.

Sources close to Comms Business report that Avaya will be taking on Sipera’s technical team but letting their sales people go immediately and that many desks have already been cleared.

Sipera has enjoyed rising prominence in the voice security market in recent times as their security appliance for SIP trunks gains popularity.
