Bauhaus goes Carbon Neutral

Bauhaus, the Altrincham-based Voice and Data specialists are one of the first agencies in the country to go Carbon Neutral.

“At Bauhaus,” says managing director Mark Pearce, “we don’t like to settle for second best. We’re leaders in recruitment and we want to be leaders in every aspect of how we run our business. We’re committed to being as environmentally responsible as possible, so becoming Carbon Neutral was the only sensible target to aim for, particularly in the light of the forthcoming Copenhagen conference.”

Bauhaus worked with the Carbon Neutral Company to audit all of its emissions, including those from energy consumption, waste and business travel. Once identified, these were reduced by a combination of internal changes (such as movement sensitive lighting, increased recycling and adopting low-carbon vehicles) along with some carbon offsetting. Through offsetting, every tonne of CO2 that is emitted by Bauhaus is matched by an equivalent amount saved by a project somewhere else in the world.

“We believe that we’re one of the first recruitment companies to have taken this step,” says Pearce, “but we’re not strangers to being leaders in our field. This is such an important topic that we’d really expect all ethically led agencies to follow suit within the next 12 months.”
