British Gas launches meter reading iPhone app v2

British Gas has unveiled version 2 of its iPhone meter reading application, which makes it even easier for customers to keep track of their energy bills, monitor their energy use over time and submit meter readings to avoid estimated bills.

Almost 100,000 customers have downloaded the app since November when British Gas became the first UK energy company to offer an iPhone application. In June alone, 18,000 meter readings were submitted by customers through their iPhone, iPod or iPad.

With version 2, customers can also view their account balance, their last bill amount, when payment is due and view graphs of their personal energy consumption of the past 24 months. The App also includes an email facility which is proving popular with customers as a way to ask British Gas questions and resolve queries.

Benjamin Braun, head of online services at British Gas said: “The British Gas iPhone App has quickly caught the imagination of our smart phone-savvy customers, who increasingly rely on it to provide a quick and simple way to submit meter readings.

“More customers already contact us over the web than by telephone and with these new features, we expect that our App will quickly become the main way that many of our iPhone customers will manage their British Gas account.”

British Gas is also giving its business customers more control of their energy bills, with the launch of the first meter reading application for the UK business market. Business customers can now control their energy bills with the new iPhone application, providing a quick and convenient way to update gas and electricity meter readings. British Gas Business is the first energy supplier to develop this latest innovation for UK businesses, which ensures greater control, billing accuracy and smarter working by freeing up precious time.
