Brits confess to spending 34 days a year at work playing on their phone

LG Electronics (LG) has revealed that Brits are spending the equivalent of over a month (34 days) a year playing on their smartphones when they should be working. The survey of 2000 people, conducted by LG to mark the launch of the new LG Optimus 3D smartphone, found that 64% of Brits admit to secretly playing with their smartphones despite it being banned in the office.

Smartphones have made it increasingly easier for employees to squeeze in some "me time" at work due to the fact they can be a lot more careful with what they’re doing on their phones than on an office computer, 1 in 10 are even sneaking a peek during meetings. As smartphones continue to provide a multitude of additional capabilities for both practical and recreational purposes, employers across the UK may soon be saying farewell to the lunch-hour and welcoming in the play-hour as part of the standard 9 to 5.

Not all Brits are getting away with their solo sessions, with 1 in 5 having been caught in the act and warned by employers or colleagues to stop playing in the office. For employers looking to catch their staff in the act, the findings reveal that the office toilet is one of the top places to look for employees playing by themselves.

Results also show that it’s not just the innocent fun of games and social networking sites that are pulling so many rebellious workers in to the loos. More than 1 in 4 men own up to using their smartphones to access adult entertainment on the internet and nearly 1 in 6 are using their phones to flirt with potential partners whilst already having a girlfriend.

Over 20% of all respondents admit to having something stored on their phones that would embarrass them if seen by a colleague - 56% of men admit to hiding a racy photo whereas over 62% of females are hiding a secret text message.
