Broadsoft to Open New Operations Centre in Northern Ireland

BroadSoft, the US-based provider of VoIP application software, is to open a European operations centre in Belfast with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

BroadSoft has quickly extended the reach of its carrier-class BroadWorks VoIP application platform in the EMEA market and now counts many of Europe's top-tier telecommunications service providers among its global customers. BroadSoft operates sales offices in London, Bonn and Paris, and has representatives in Stockholm and Madrid. The BroadSoft European Operations Centre is located at the Northern Ireland Science Park in Belfast, and expands BroadSoft's capabilities to provide real-time technical support, service and training to its European customers.

The BroadSoft European Operations Centre complements BroadSoft's other global technical centres in North America and Australia to provide support to BroadSoft and global customers on a follow-the-sun basis.

"BroadSoft's BroadWorks platform is currently used by dozens of service providers in Europe, and this new European support facility will help our customers go to market more quickly with their fixed, mobile and converged VoIP offerings," said Michael Tessler, president and CEO of BroadSoft. "The Belfast centre allows us to provide access to highly skilled technical staff and an advanced telecommunications infrastructure in a location that facilitates rapid response to our customers' needs.

"Northern Ireland clearly offered us the most attractive option for our European expansion," he added.

Invest NI provided support to BroadSoft in identifying a facility location and facilitating the launch of the European Operations Centre.

"By the end of 2006, more than 66% of the Global 2000 companies will be using VoIP, and by 2010 the Western European VoIP market will be worth at least £8 billion," said Leslie Morrison, CEO of Invest NI, citing data from research firm Analysis. "Belfast offers BroadSoft a vibrant location near a well-trained workforce, other leading technology companies, and academic institutions. Through its Belfast centre, BroadSoft will clearly add value to its global service operations as well as the local economy."

The BroadSoft European Operations Centre is slated for a grand opening at the end of October. Invest NI has offered to cover a significant portion of BroadSoft's start-up costs for the new centre.
