‘Brown Bounce’ Boosts Brand-Rex Fund-Raiser

The UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, gave a boost to the Brand-Rex’ annual fund raiser held at the end of October, donating his pink tie to the charity raffle

On the campaign trail in Fife, Mr Brown took time out for a private visit to the Brand-Rex manufacturing plant and headquarters in Glenrothes, and was welcomed by Sir David Murray, owner of Murray International Holdings, whose private investment arm Murray Capital recently became the major investor in Brand-Rex. Mr Brown also met with Brand-Rex CEO Paul Lines and a number of employees from across the business.

Brand-Rex’ staff pulled out all the stops to bring in donations from hobbies, outside contacts and some very generous suppliers, to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Awareness charity’s ‘Wear it Pink’ campaign.

Charity events were held at Brand-Rex throughout the last week of October, culminating in ‘Wear it Pink Day’ on Friday 31st. Activities included a tug of war using Brand-Rex cable, and competitions such as best pumpkin design and best dressed in pink. Employees also got the chance to pelt managers, who had been placed in stocks, with wet sponges. Brand-Rex’ global workforce of 400 employees also participated, with overseas staff joining in an online quiz and a ‘guess the manager – from baby photo’ competition.

“It was a fantastic day and I would like to thank all of the staff at Brand-Rex for making such a tremendous effort to raise funds for what is an extremely important cause,” said Ian Wilkie, Business and Marketing Director at Brand-Rex. “It was also a real honour for us to meet with Mr Brown – and I am glad that we were able to tie him down for the afternoon.”

The Wear it Pink day was the finale of the UK’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer Campaign’s mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.
