BSkyB Dials BT for Managed 118 Directory Enquiries Service

BT has reached agreement with Sky to deliver a managed 118 directory enquiries service. The deal with BT allows Sky to offer a directory enquiries service under the 118 Sky brand to UK customers quickly and cost effectively.

BT will manage the new 118 Sky service, including handling all 118 directory enquiry calls and delivery of SMS messages to mobile 118 users. Calls to 118 Sky will be directed onto BT’s network, with call agents handling enquiries on Sky’s behalf.

BT directly manages the 118 directory enquiries service for more than 40 providers in the UK.

Today’s announcement closely follows a contract between BT Wholesale and Sky to provide a wholesale calls service to support calls for all Sky’s 1.5 million Sky Talk customers.

Mark Winterbottom, Director of Broadband & Telephony, BSkyB, said: “With the launch of 118 Sky, residential customers in the UK can now enjoy even more choice when they need to access a directory enquiries service. The relationship with BT allows us to build on our award winning Sky Talk service and deliver a high quality directory enquiries service to our customers that also offers great value.”

Mick Hammond, Director, BT Wholesale Markets, said: “We already have a strong relationship with Sky through the delivery of Wholesale Calls for Sky Talk customers. This knowledge and understanding of Sky’s ambitions in the telephony market makes us the ideal partner to help them enter the 118 market. BT is a well established, trusted supplier of managed directory enquiries services to communications providers in the UK, offering a high quality, scalable and cost efficient service. We’re thrilled that Sky has selected BT to underpin the 118 Sky service.”
