Central Telecom Takes a Hosted IP Voice Route to SMEs

Central Telecom has taken a step towards hosted IP telephony through the signing of an agreement with TeleWare Hosted Services to enable them to provide Central’s customers with a suite of business applications as a hosted service offering, including IP Centrex capabilities over their VoIP ready network.

The enhanced solution combines the functionality of a traditional PBX with additional value-added services provided from TeleWare, enabling applications such as call recording, personal numbering and team working to be delivered over the Central Telecom IP network from the TeleWare hosted service platforms in London.

The service packages have been developed in collaboration with TeleWare to ensure the offerings meet the requirements of business users. “We selected TeleWare as our partner for this venture because they offer a vendor built platform, this means they have a different business model to all other vendors of hosted platforms,” said Neil Boxer, Hosted Services Development Manager for Central Telecom. “TeleWare are able to provide us with a solution so we can deploy hosted applications rapidly from their data centres in London, allowing us to come to market very quickly. Then, when we are ready and have built a working customer base and more experience of the hosted services market, we can purchase and run our own platform within our own data centres,” explained Boxer.

TeleWare, as a UK vendor, is working closely with Central Telecom to develop and support them, and TeleWare’s local development department is able to respond rapidly to their needs and changes. “We consider this a long term partnership,” said Peter Orr, Sales Director at TeleWare. “We believe we have a lot to learn form working closely with Central and having them influence our roadmap,” noted Orr.

“Voice applications provide hosted services with the main ARPU potential, and TeleWare’s 15 year history ensures a level of telephony expertise and demonstrates a commitment to voice applications that is unique in the industry,” added Boxer.

Central Telecom are targeting the SME segment of business users directly and the applications provided by this IP Centrex service will secure additional market share and generate new revenue streams from recurring monthly rentals and voice minutes. Hosted IP voice applications complement the existing portfolios and offer differentiation at a time when the traditional voice market is reaching saturation and is subject to intense price pressure.
