Chess-shire Business Awards

Alderley Edge based telecoms company Chess plc has been shortlisted for Employer of the Year at the Trinity Mirror Cheshire Business Awards.

Chess has enjoyed a sustained period of growth and success ranking highly in various business growth lists such as the Sunday Times Fast Track 100. In this time, Chess has also made the shortlist for numerous business and industry awards, winning seven in the last 18 months including Business of the Year at last year’s Cheshire Business Awards.

Now in its fourth year, the Cheshire Business Awards is one of the most eagerly awaited events on the county’s business calendar. Drawing interest from a varied and diverse selection of Cheshire businesses, from small, family owned companies, to large corporations, the Awards aim to reward and recognise excellence, best practice and innovation throughout the Cheshire business community. In all of the awards categories, the judges were looking for evidence of these guiding principles.

Reaching the shortlist for Employer of the Year is testament to Chess’ commitment to the health, welfare and development of its people. The rapidly growing business recognises that the success of its people will underpin the future growth and success of the business and has implemented a variety of initiatives in support of this.

Chess people are provided with free organic fruit, mineral water, healthy breakfasts and stress relieving massages in its feng shui’d head office. Chess also offers health incentives to employees such as the opportunity to buy heavily discounted bikes under the government bike to work scheme.

Chess’ most significant investment into the development of its people is the company wide launch of its Personal Performance Programme. Every Chess person will undergo a nine day intensive training course that will encourage and broaden their belief, knowledge, skill and motivation.

“Our people are our greatest asset,” says Chess chief executive David Pollock. “To be shortlisted for Employer of the Year at the Cheshire Business Awards is a fantastic honour and testament to our commitment to the health, welfare and development of our people. The Cheshire Business Awards is an important event in the local business community that Chess is proud to be a part of. There are some fantastic businesses in the county and we are delighted to be amongst them on the shortlist for this award.”
