The MEN Awards are looking for companies that demonstrate excellence in enterprise, competitiveness, innovation, strong management and well-motivated employees, all of which, according to Chess are inherent in their company. The entry included a copy of the code of ethics that governs the way Chess does business, descriptions of Chess’s bespoke solutions and commissioned deal structures, an explanation of the benefits of the Japanese acupressure massage staff receive on a monthly basis and even pictures of staff enjoying the fruit provided weekly by Chess Chief Executive, David Pollock.
After submission of the entry, a team of experts from the Awards sponsors visited a number of short-listed companies. The final short-list was then drawn up and the finalists, Chess included, have been invited to give a presentation to the judging panel.
Previous short listed companies who went on to win include contemporary property developers Urban Splash, the Co-Operative Bank, La Tasca and Manchester United. This year William Hague will host the awards ceremony and gala dinner at Manchester’s Midland Hotel in November.
David Pollock said of being short listed for the award “Chess’s most important asset is its people and its success is through investment in them. Chess has grown significantly over the last two years and this has been fuelled by a great team spirit – by working together and helping each other, we achieve greater success. It is recognition of our hard work over the last few years to be nominated for the MEN Business of the Year Award, let alone be in the final three and winning this award would be the pinnacle of Chess’s achievements to date.”
