Comms Business Golf Society Q1 event - HUGE success!

Hatfield London’s new Japanese designed course was the venue for The Comms Business Golf Societies (CBGS) first meeting of the year sponsored by Aastra and our members enthusiasm wasn’t dampened by the awful winter we’ve had.

Miles Bossom Reports.

You could excuse people for “not being up” for a round of golf in March following the worst winter we have seen for years. A lack of practise caused by more course closures than you could shake a 3 wood at would put some not so hardy types off.

But our members represent The Channel! And we are not put off by a bit or rain… Our Q1 event held on 25th March saw us field 72 golfers for our biggest and best event to date. A shot gun start (or air horn as it was) signalled the start of the event as eighteen golfers teed off simultaneously and the fun began.

In addition to playing our usual individual stableford format off we have also introduced a best team prize with all four scores counting. This way members having a bad day still have something to play for – their team! Some moaned about our new society handicap system but there were few who had cause for complaint when they returned their score cards.

The team prize went to James Emm of Oak, Bart Delgado, Greg Tutt of DV02 and Martin Rodden of Neowave. The guys carded a combined score of 142 points – well done fellas!

Stevie McCullum of Tiger Communications (nothing to do with Mr Woods) proved his metal putting his ball just a couple of feet from the hole to win the Nearest the Pin prize. His society handicap of 9 is surely up for debate following such a performance!!

The muscle man of the day winning the Longest Drive was Rob Howarth of IP Netix who was playing off a handicap of 17. His 32 points scored would indicate Rob was looking for distance rather than accuracy but who cares – he left with some silverware.

The Channel Cup is the trophy that all our golfers want to get their hands on making them a part of Channel history. I was really pleased that Justin Blaine of Neowave won this quarters event playing off a 28 handicap he scored a whopping 42 points. I set his handicap based upon previous performance and its fair to say that “the boy done good”, he simply had a blinding day at (or rather out) the office.

Second and third places went to Ian Lev and Martin Rodden both on 42 points.

The Comms Business Golf Society is open to anyone working within the Comms Channel and is a non profit making organisation. Players pay to play and come along to network, build relationships and have some fun.
