Comparex appointed as distributor covering cloud-based disaster recovery programme in UK

Vision Solutions provides real-time replication solutions for high availability and disaster recovery offerings that are hosted in the cloud

Vision Solutions Inc., a provider of information availability software and services with over 25,000 customers running Windows, Linux, IBM Power Systems and Cloud Computing environments, today announced that it has signed a partnership with Comparex UK to support hosting providers and resellers that wish to offer disaster recovery and data protection. Working with Comparex, these organisations can expand their services based on the Double-Take suite of real-time data replication products to provide Cloud-based business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for their customers, irrespective of the platforms that these customers have in place.

Comparex offers a “one stop shop” approach to providing software licensing and support for hosting companies and resellers that want to offer cloud services to their customers. It supplies both the tools and technical expertise that companies require to deliver cloud and works with a range of software providers as part of their service provider licensing programmes, including Microsoft, VMware, Parallels, Red Hat, Trend Micro and Sophos. The new partnership with Vision Solutions expands on these relationships to include business continuity as a service that partners can now offer.

Mike Chambers, managing director at Comparex, said, “We have a long history in supplying software licensing and consultancy services, and we are expanding the range of solutions we can help partners with by adding disaster recovery. Working with Vision Solutions provides us with a recognisable brand name for our partners to base their cloud computing services on. The Double-Take product complements our existing service provider licensing partners, so we can continue to provide everything that hosting providers require to sell cloud effectively from under one roof.”

Ian Masters, UK Sales Director at Vision Solutions, commented, “The demand for cloud computing services has continued to grow; we are seeing a thirst for business continuity and disaster recovery offerings from both customers and partners, as they look to reduce their capital expenditure. The Double-Take products support cloud providers by replicating data changes in real time from customer servers across to second sites, regardless of the operating system, storage platform or virtualisation solution that these organisations are running. Working with Comparex, Double-Take can be used to provide the right levels of data replication and protection as part of wider Cloud-based disaster recovery initiatives.”

Vision Solutions’ Cloud Protection and Recovery (CPR) Programme offers a monthly use-based licensing payment structure. As service providers offer these business continuity solutions to their customers on a pay-as-you-use basis, so Comparex and Vision Solutions only bill them for the number of licenses that are consumed. This improves their ability to manage the cost of providing the service internally as they scale up the number of customers that are supported, enhancing margin opportunities for the partner involved.

Double-Take provides real-time asynchronous replication over wide area networks with automated recovery and failover capabilities and works across Microsoft Windows, Linux and multiple virtualisation platforms including Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware. Double-Take allows service providers to offer remote recovery services that meet even the most aggressive recovery time objectives (RTOs), so users can have their critical applications running again in minutes as part of a cloud service provider’s offering.
