Comtec Awarded for Environmental Best Practice

Telecoms distributor Comtec, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, has been awarded silver in the Distribution and Logistics category of The Green Apple Environment Awards 2007.

Organised by The Green Organisation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to environmental best practice around the world, the award was given to Comtec in recognition of the company’s recycling initiative.

John Buck, Managing Director said, ‘Since the implementation of the recycling initiative in 2005, which saw the introduction of a shredding machine to re-use all recyclable materials received by our ‘Goods In’ department for use within the packing process, we have achieved a 100% recycling rate of such materials via the shredder. This has not only substantially reduced wastage, but has also added economic value to the company, saving in excess of £5,000 per year.’

Buck went on to say, ‘Following a review earlier in 2007, the initiative now includes separate collections for recyclable materials unable to be shredded and with environmental issues and credentials becoming increasingly important to our customers, the award will be a great reference to have as well as a worthy achievement.’

The Green Apple Environment Awards are in their fifteenth year and attracted more than 500 nominations in 2007.
