Crimson Tide, a mobile data solutions company, has received an order for its advanced mpro mobile data solution, incorporating 30 Motorola MC55 smartphone units that will play a role in the Active Lifestyles initiative being run by Manchester City Council.

The principal aim of the scheme is to take physical activity into the community via leisure centres, schools, parks and youth centres. Crimson Tide’s mpro system will provide a mobile solution that will accept registrations, payments and records of participation.

Crimson Tide’s mpro system provides a remote work place solution, allowing instructors to perform a wide range of transactions from signing in attendees to importing members details (including medical history etc) from the central management system.

Because of the risks associated with instructors taking cash at remote locations, the system has been designed to accept a wide range of payment options, including vouchers, and pre-paid and pay as you go membership cards.

Other facilities include: exporting participation details into the membership management system; allowing automated recording of membership participation (for example, by scanning the member’s card); and displaying membership and payment details. In addition, if members have forgotten or not been issued with a card, it allows manual recording by simply ticking a box on the smartphone.

Said Crimson Tide chairman, Barrie Whipp: “Our proprietary mpro smartphone system is simple to use and incredibly versatile. It can be customised and configured to meet most types of Council field requirements, and for users’ convenience it offers all of the benefits of a smartphone. We are convinced that our mpro mobile solutions, which are supplied on a subscription basis with no capital outlay, can contribute to government efficiencies and savings that are so relevant at this time.”
