Exponential-e launches secure Internet service for schools

Network services company Exponential-e has launched a new Internet product specifically designed for schools. Built with pupil security in mind, the high-speed, fibre-based service offers BECTA-approved web filtering and a virtual firewall. Exponential-e is offering to waive its normal upfront installation fee, as an introductory promotion, and provide the service from £550 per month.

PowerEducate is part of Exponential-e’s market-leading PowerNGN business Internet portfolio. It features non-contended, high-speed, fibre-based connectivity available in increments between 10Mbps and 1Gbps on a dedicated and synchronous basis. The service is more than an Internet service however in that it uniquely allows customers to allocate bandwidth, which is not being used for the Internet, to other services such as HD video conferencing, SIP or perhaps to connect privately to other schools.

PowerEducate comes with a host of optional extras which include:- BECTA-approved web filtering; the ability to define access levels according to different user groups via a portal; and a state-of-the-art virtual firewall which can be provided from Exponential-e‘s cloud without any need for on-premise hardware. Exponential-e is also offering a free 2 month trial of its cloud-ready enhancement to the service which will allow the school to identify exactly what kind of traffic is flowing across the service and to block, rate-limit or optimise each type (at the application-level) according to their needs.

Richard Hindley, Director of IT, Westminster School explains “PowerEducate provides a high-level of performance and is robust. The pricing is excellent which has meant we have been able to significantly increase our bandwidth”.

David Lozdan, Head of Public Sector, Exponential-e said “Modern education requires that students get the best on-line and interactive learning experiences. We’re committed to providing fast, non-contended, reliable internet connectivity at affordable prices, with the levels of security that schools demand. And as we only provide business-grade services our schools don’t have to worry about being mis-sold something that is really only intended for residential consumer use. I’d recommend that Head Teachers talk to us now to discuss the benefits of our PowerEducate internet service for their students.”

Schools and educational establishments in more than 20 qualifying cities across the country can now take advantage of the “free install” offer. It will apply to new orders placed between midday 11th March 2011 and close of business 30th April 2011. The promotion results from Exponential-e’s extensive nationwide network investment over the last year.
