Foundry Networks Claim World’s Most Powerful Routing Switch

Foundry Networks is making two significant new product announcements on June 4, 2007 involving infrastructure technology for enterprises and service providers that will provide customers with the tools to deliver high performance computing, as well as improve the security of mission critical applications.

The company says its BigIron RX-32 is the world’s most powerful routing switch adding that the massive growth in Internet traffic, ever increasing number of data and hosting centres, new convergence-based services demand for robust disaster recovery solutions, and need for high performance cluster computing are all driving the requirement for large scale data centres to have competitively priced powerful routing and switch technology.

Foundry is launching the BigIron RX-32 to meet these needs. Designed for large-scale environments such as data centres, academic research, commercial R&D, high performance computing and weather pattern analysis, the RX-32 offers industry leading price performance – 90% cheaper compared to competitive offerings, yet still providing better performance, more features and lower power consumption. Additionally the company says the product has ultra-high capacity Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching – up to 1,536 x 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports or 128 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports on a single system, a new rack design with front to back airflow module and 1+1 power supply redundancy to ensure system availability, 2.3 billion packet per second throughput and support for both IPv4 and IPv6.
