The certificate provides proof of electromagnetic compliance (EMC), which is necessary for wireless communication in medical institutions. WLANs allow hospitals and therapy centres to deliver fast and simple access and administration of patient files on mobile ward rounds as well as wireless connection of diagnostic equipment to hospital information systems.
The EMC for the access points is tested as part of European EN 60601-1-2 validation. This ensures that the WLAN infrastructure does not affect other sensitive medical diagnostic equipment and demonstrates enhanced immunity to external interference for trouble-free wireless operation. In addition, the FEC W-Client CardBus .11g client card is also licensed for use in medical institutions.
With a Funkwerk WLAN, doctors and other hospital staff can have continuous access to patient data and test results via a laptop. During a ward round, prescription orders and updates to patient files can also be made directly on the hospital server, which reduces follow-up work and avoids errors caused by data entered incorrectly at a later date.
WLAN integration also allows diagnostic equipment to be connected wirelessly via the Ethernet interface for mobile deployment in operating theatres and wards.
