Gamma Telecom and the University of the West of England Win Major Grant from the DTI

As part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme the DTI has awarded a £160,000 grant to support a partnership between Gamma Telecom and the University of the West of England (UWE). Specialists in systems analysis and software engineering from UWE’s Bristol Institute of Technology will work with telecoms and business experts at Gamma to develop a state-of-the-art provisioning system that will enable not only Gamma Telecom, but the telecoms industry as a whole, to create more effective and streamlined businesses.

The partnership will enable Gamma to capitalise fully on the opportunities IP telephony presents in terms of new products, cost efficiency and flexibility in adapting to new market conditions. This will be achieved by working in collaboration with UWE to create a modern workflow system (otherwise known as a Business Process Management System), which will help give Gamma a core capability upon which new products can be developed to meet the needs of its channel partners and the SMB market that they serve.

Tim Hill, Programme Manager at Gamma Telecom, commented, “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant. The submission and approval process for the KTP scheme is extremely competitive and only the most promising prospects get through. This is a very exciting project and we are looking forward to exchanging expertise with UWE over the next two years, in the hope that we can help one another to develop leading edge systems and bring further improvements to our industry and the end customer”

Welcoming the partnership, Dr Stewart Green from UWE commented, “Strong collaboration between UWE and Gamma staff resulted in a compelling application, which helped to secure the grant. We now look forward to developing our working relationship with Gamma.” The project strongly complements UWE’s research and teaching across a range of areas, and will enable application of cutting-edge knowledge within the demanding telecommunications sector.

It is expected that the partnership will contribute to the continued and impressive growth which Gamma has experienced over recent years, by making the business even more effective in its operations.
