Gilat Satcom Selects Tvinci for Satellite-Based OTT TV Offering

Networks & Network Services
Gilat Satcom has announced that together with Tvinci, the Pay Over-the-Top video platform provider, iit will offer, for the first time, a full duplex satellite-based OTT TV solution. Launched at AfricaCom, Cape Town, the solution utilizes Gilat Satcom’s satellite-based connectivity services and Tvinci’s unique Pay OTT platform to deliver accessible OTT TV content across PC, Connected TV, Set-top Box (STB), tablet, and smartphone, to global regions in which broadband connectivity is low.

"Our mission was to bring connectivity to customers operating beyond the reach of traditional telecommunications,” said Dan Winter, CEO, Gilat Satcom. “Via the exciting combination of Tvinci’s cross-device technology and our extensive global satellite coverage, this ground-breaking project enables, for the first time, the delivery of OTT video to multiple regions in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, where broadband connectivity is currently less available.”

The Tvinci and Gilat combined solution uses satellite communication to deliver video to edge points – for example, at education centres and internet cafes – before being pushed to end-devices Over-the-Top. This enables viewers to consume compelling pay-OTT content such as Hollywood movies and popular TV series across PCs, tablets and smartphones.

“This deployment represents an important development in the delivery of premium content Over-the-Top,” said Ofer Shayo, CEO, Tvinci. “We’re pleased to work with Gilat Satcom in green field markets, where no OTT TV solutions exist, and truly deliver TV to anyone, anywhere. Bringing Pay OTT TV to developing markets is sure to be a hot topic the year ahead, including at the upcoming OTT World Summit in London.”
