Griffin invests in new core network

Griffin completed their core network update this week increasing their network capacity, they say, by over 1000%. The significant investment was necessary to support the current demand for Ethernet and future demand for managed applications.

Griffin created a new optical backbone to increase network capacity designed to provide a highly flexible national infrastructure. The deployment was the first of its kind in the UK and enables the company to take total control over their network improving reliability for their Partners.

Adrian Sunderland, Griffin’s CTO said, “We undertook an extensive search for a supplier that would meet our planned capacity requirements over the next few years. We compared all viable architectures from a number of vendors before deciding on Transmode. We expect to see a return in our investment within 12 months and are able to use Transmode’s optical networking expertise and training as we go into our next growth phase.

We are pleased to report that the upgrade went very smoothly. Partners were kept informed at every step in the process and disruption was kept to an absolute minimum. This was the biggest network engineering programme we have ever undertaken, completely replacing Griffin’s core network. I am very proud of the way my team planned and implemented the project.”
