Healthcare Commission Decides on Converged Wide Area IP Network Supplier

THUS, a Cable&Wireless business, today announces that it has won a contract to supply the Healthcare Commission with a next-generation communications network worth up to £17m. The network will initially carry data, voice and Internet traffic and provide a platform for further upgrades including managed, hosted Unified Communications services to be deployed in the future.

The Healthcare Commission is the independent watchdog for healthcare in England promoting continuous improvement in the services provided by the NHS and independent healthcare organisations. The Commission will use the fully managed solution supplied by THUS to carry IP traffic to its sites across the country. The Commission selected THUS as the solution best met its requirement for a secure and reliable network, with capability to take on additional IP communications services at the appropriate time. Further roll-outs could include a hosted IP Communications solution to combine voice and video conferencing, PSTN voice break out and mobile voice and data.

Mike Holderness, IT Service Manager at The Healthcare Commission, commented: “During the tendering process THUS was attentive to our requirements and have delivered an excellent solution tailored to the Commission’s needs and aspirations. We were impressed by the technology behind THUS’s advanced converged network and are confident that THUS has the skills and experience to operate and manage the network and importantly to deliver high quality customer service. THUS has provided us with a network that will deliver efficiencies this year while at the same time establishing a platform able to absorb future services and network growth.”

Delivering on our promises to provide the highest quality in terms of both network performance and consultancy will continue under the new Cable&Wireless ownership along with a commitment to provide only the best levels of service to all customers.”
