help4IT delivers open-source phone system to the UK’s leading retail technology experts

help4IT Ltd has announced details of work helping Retail IT migrate to an Asterisk based VoIP phone system.

Brands like LK Bennett, Black & Decker and Sotheby’s rely on the London based firm for a range of services including stock management, e-commerce integrations, payment processing tools and a whole host of other technology related systems and services.

Like many of the retailers it works for, Retail IT offers a support service that is available 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Communication is critical to the firm that also delivers high value professional services such as consulting and project management. In an effort to improve the functionality, reliability and features of its phone system; the firm began investigating a migrating to a Linux based Asterisk VoIP phone system.

As James Rodger, Managing Director for Retail IT explains, “We run a highly technical helpdesk with a team that is probably one of the most knowledgeable groups of individuals around retail technology in the UK – however, we didn’t want to have to learn every detail of our phone system and Linux platforms which is why we turned to help4IT.” Working closely with the in-house IT department, help4IT designed and deployed a complete Asterisk phone system with on-going technical support.

The phone system has worked without any unplanned downtime for 6 years. “help4IT are experts across Linux and Asterisk phone systems and they were instrumental in solving a serious issue which could have had a major impact on our business,” comments Rodger.

help4IT is now working with Rodger around an upgrade to its telecommunication infrastructure to deal with growing demand for its services. “It has been a good relationship and we are happy for it to continue into the future,” Rodger adds.
