Huawei - ARM sub Huawei amid US sanction clampdown

The ramifications of the US sanctions on Huawei are starting to become clear. ARM, the UK-based chip manufacturer, is the latest company to announce it will no longer be dealing with the Chinese company.

According to the BBC, ARM instructed employees to halt "all active contracts, support entitlements, and any pending engagements” with Huawei and its subsidiaries via an email to all employees.

Yesterday Google declared it would be suspending Huawei's licence to use the Android operating system in its handset range (currently at the number 2 spot in the shipment rankings) - reported by Technology Business Today.

America is aggressively campaigning against Chinese telecom champion Huawei, fearful Beijing’s domination of 5G could be used for espionage and sabotage. Washington is widely seen as having taken the initiative in the global campaign against Huawei Technologies, a company that in the three decades since its founding has become a pillar of Beijing’s bid to expand its global influence. Although the recent announcements impact the handset division, its clear the offensive is on all fronts.

Huawei released a statement today to address the latest developments: "We value our close relationships with our partners, but recognise the pressure some of them are under, as a result of politically motivated decisions. We are confident this regrettable situation can be resolved and our priority remains to continue to deliver world-class technology and products to our customers around the world.”
