Connexion2, which first received ACPO’s (Association of Chief Police Officers for England & Wales) Secured by Design (SBD) Award for its Identicom lone worker devices in 2009, has now achieved the same coveted accreditation for its Identicom Mobile product.

Using much of the functionality available on the Identicom lone worker device (LWD), but on a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile smart-phone, Identicom mobile is an APP for lone workers and is easy to install through a simple download process by clicking a URL link and following several simple steps. The product enables a user to obtain the necessary help if they become a victim of verbal abuse; attack or they feel their safety could be compromised. The award marks a significant step for how a lone worker app for a smart-phone can be judged as ‘fit for purpose’ – particularly when coupled with Connexion2’s BS8484 audit approval ensuring all SoloProtect solutions are guaranteed a Police escalation when required by the lone worker.

Identicom mobile has met the stringent security standards required by SBD, an initiative from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) that aims to reduce crime through effective design. The product underwent rigorous evaluation prior to being accepted by SBD. Now, it is able to utilise the coveted SBD logo - the only logo that guarantees national Police approval of a product. The SBD logo provides security specifiers, managers and end customers with reassurance that the accredited product provides a realistic level of resistance to criminal attack. The logo is widely recognised within the industry and is increasingly being listed as a mandatory requirement in various tenders.

Launched in 2010, Identicom mobile affords a lone worker many of the features and benefits of the Identicom LWD but specifically caters for workers who face infrequent social risk. The APP utilises the same function terminology as Identicom, such as ‘Amber Alert’ and ‘Red Alert’, providing ease of use across a range of workers who might be using a mix of dedicated and non-dedicated devices. Identicom mobile also allows the user to automatically open a ‘Red Alert’ through the product menu and by a definable single key for ease of use in the face of verbal abuse or attack, even when the key lock is deployed.

Secured by Design is the UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of "designing out crime" through the use of effective crime prevention and security standards for a range of applications. A not for profit company, ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives Limited was established in 1999 by the Association of Police Officers (ACPO) to manage Secured by Design and similar crime prevention initiatives at a national level.

“Gaining ‘Secured by Design’ status from ACPO for Identicom Mobile is both a logical expansion of our product accreditations but also aalso a significant achievement”, said Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2. “It demonstrates our commitment to safety and sustainability and provides our customers with the assurance that all our products match quoted performance claims. Securing SBD status accreditation provides the entire Identicom product range with a competitive advantage and reiterates our status as the UK’s leading provider of lone worker safety products.”
