Info-Tech Research Group Names Avaya a “Champion” of Unified Communications

Avaya was named a Champion of the Unified Communications market, with the Avaya Aura platform earning the top product scores out of 12 major UC vendors, in a new Vendor Landscape report by Info-Tech Research Group.

“With a wide range of UC features, Avaya Aura is well-positioned as both the UC platform of choice for Avaya IP telephony users, as well as an option for deploying an integrated, ‘over the top’ UC solution in conjunction with other non-Avaya IP telephony environments,” the market research organisation said. Avaya Aura scores high on criteria including features, usability, affordability and architecture, Info-Tech Research Group’s analysts found.

According to the report, by mid-2013, 35% of the workforce will use personal devices for work-related tasks, and 89% of organisations will allow the use of personal device for email. Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) programmes and the general rise in mobile device usage have driven the need for unified communications (UC) vendors to support a variety of devices.

Avaya will significantly strengthen its ability to deliver video to mobile devices with its planned acquisition of RADVISION Ltd., a leading provider of videoconferencing and telepresence over IP and wireless networks.

Aura is Avaya’s core communications platform supporting unified communications and contact centre solutions for midsize to large enterprises. Leveraging a revolutionary session initiation protocol (SIP) architecture and virtualisation technology, Avaya Aura simplifies complex networks and reduces infrastructure costs. The platform enables faster and easier deployment of communications capabilities such as voice, video, messaging, and presence, increasing productivity and business agility.

"The UC market is no longer limited to presence and messaging; it now includes rich communication tools like video, voice, and document sharing, all working together seamlessly.” James McCloskey, Senior Research Analyst, Info-Tech Research Group.

“Avaya is intently focused on leading the shift within the UC market from individual products to a tightly integrated system that delivers an extraordinary user experience powered by Avaya Awareness technology that makes rich multi-media communication dramatically more effective. Avaya Aura is at the core of Avaya’s innovation and we are glad to see it listed as a champion of UC communications.”Brett Shockley, Senior Vice President and General Manager Applications and Emerging Technologies, Avaya.
