Interoute Helps Police Protect World Cup Fans

German Federal Police at the FIFA World Cup 2006 are using the interactive guiding information and alarm notification system (iFAS) in more than 100 stations across Germany. The system was developed by KNT Telecom and is hosted by Interoute from its data centres in Berlin and Munich.

Thanks to its ability to talk to any communication device, the iFAS system enables alarm calls to be received by the police instantly at all World Cup venues. From walkie talkies to PDA’s, laptops and mobile phones, whatever devices the police are using they can pick up the call for support in seconds.

The system can record and report on dispatched and received messages, which allows all communications paths to be traceable at any given time. Automated notification of an incident or orders occurs in the form of SMS, voice, fax or e-mail message.

Interoute operates Europe’s leading Next Generation Network for voice and data communication, and is a leading managed service provider. Furthermore, the company is the only provider certified by Germany’s Federal Communication Security Agency (BSI).

Gareth Williams, President Global Markets, said: “It’s great that Interoute is linked to such a high profile event as the World Cup, we’re also proud of the fact that our network is able to deliver 100% reliable communications for the German Federal Police. The reduced reaction times our technology delivers means police can be on the scene very quickly to handle the situation, this means a better service for the general public. This deal adds to other customers we manage critical communications for, including several government bodies and agencies.”

iFAS is based on KNT’s proprietary multimedia communications platform CIQ (Communications Systems with IQ), offering an interactive communications system for any organisation that needs to exchange information in a quick, easy and efficient manner. The configuration and data administration of the system can be accessed via a web-based interface from any Internet medium.

Previous versions of iFAS have already benefited the Federal Police at events such as the 2005 Confederations Cup in Germany, as well as the Olympic Games in Athens and Turin.
